This listing is for a gorgeous hall clock. A hall clock is a large grandfather clock, usually with elaborate chimes, made to be placed in an entryway. They are usually of high quality and have ornate cases.
This clock was a creation of Bawo & Dotter of New York. Bawo & Dotter was an importer and retailer of high end goods (1870-1914). Their clocks were of very high quality, featuring imported German movements. Many of the cases were designed by Charles Jacques and were built in New York. Bawo & Dotter clocks were sold by high end furniture and home goods retailers throughout the US. Their designs were competitive with companies, such as Herschede.
This clock is of exceptional beauty. It features a large wooden case with hand painted Chinoiserie detailing throughout. The clock has an 8 day movement with quarter hour striking. The clock plays Westminster chimes on 5 tubes. The dial is an elaborate design with 2 toned metal and scrolling moon phase.
The clock is signed by Bawo & Dotter on the movement and is marked "Germany."
The dial has the name of the retailer, Royal Furniture Company of Grand Rapids, Michigan. This clock was produced around 1900.
This clock is very unique and we can not find any other examples of this model surviving today.
The clock measures about 90 x 22.5 x 13.5
Chairish sells clocks solely to be intended for display. The mechanical elements are not guaranteed to be in working order by Chairish
