The front depicts an elaborate panoramic courtly scene with elegant figures gathered in pavilions and garden terraces amid bridges engaged in leisurely activities. The painted figures amid rocks, water, and trees, all set against a warm gold ground. The composition is framed by black lacquer borders ornamented with vases, florals, stylized creatures, and various scholars objects. The reverse is also fully decorated, featuring a more restrained stark landscape of flowering trees, birds, and rocks on a dark ground. The screen works beautifully as a room divider, statement accent piece, or against a wall as a backdrop. Each panel measures 16" wide for a total width of approximately 128" wide. The finish has an intentionally distressed finish on the gilt ground to mimic age as seen in photos. Each lacquered panel is supported by square legs having patinated brass clad feet.
