Part of June Hastings’ Collected & Considered — a refined, thoughtful mix of furniture and objects that bring depth, form, and a sense of history to a space.
A decorative porcelain compote featuring three sculptural cherubs supporting a wide, shallow dish, finished in a soft turquoise ground with gilt accents. The center well is decorated with a pastoral scene—figures gathered beneath a tree beside a cottage—framed by a delicate gilt border.
The composition is balanced and expressive, with the cherubs arranged in a continuous circular form that gives the piece movement from every angle. The contrast between the luminous white figures and the saturated turquoise creates a strong visual presence, while the low, open form makes it easy to use as a centerpiece, fruit compote, or simply as a sculptural object. Produced in Continental Europe in the mid-20th century, drawing on earlier neoclassical porcelain traditions. A decorative piece that reads well in both traditional and more layered, eclectic interiors.
JUNE'S THOUGHTS
This is the kind of object that doesn’t need much around it. The cherubs give it presence, but the open form keeps it feeling light. A simple placement on a table, console, or shelf is enough to shift the mood of a space—something with a bit of narrative, a sense of form, and just enough color to hold your eye.
