A rare view of the church of Santi Domenico e Sisto, one of Rome’s finest Baroque churches. The inscription ‘per M. G. Rossi’ identifies Matteo Gregorio de Rossi (1638–1702), a Roman printmaker and publisher and son of Giovanni Battista de Rossi, who ran the family business in Piazza Navona. Engravings signed in this manner are generally dated to the late 17th century, circa 1680–1695. Printed on early laid paper, this example captures the church’s dramatic double staircase, elegant façade, and surrounding landmarks. As the church of the Pontifical University of St. Thomas Aquinas, known as the Angelicum, the site holds historical significance for the Dominican Order.
Perfect for gallery walls, studies, or libraries, this engraving appeals to collectors, Grand Tour enthusiasts, lovers of Roman history or Baroque architecture and those connected to the Dominican Order. A memorable gift or keepsake from early Rome. Framed in a contemporary black frame, ready to hang.
