This elegant French ceramic vide-poche was created in Vallauris circa 1960 and signed Pol Chambost, a celebrated figure of mid-century French ceramics known for his refined forms and distinctive glazes. The piece features a sculptural leaf form with softly undulating edges, embodying the organic modernist aesthetic for which Chambost’s work is highly sought after.
The surface is dressed in a richly variegated glaze, blending tones of deep green, ivory, and subtle charcoal, with a beautifully mottled and almost crystalline effect across the interior. The exterior is finished in a contrasting matte black glaze, creating a striking visual balance between texture and tone. The underside bears the incised signature “Pol Chambost Vallauris Made in France,” further supporting the attribution.
The ceramic dish is in excellent condition commensurate with age and use, with minor wear consistent with handling. Versatile in function, it may be used as a vide-poche, catchall, or decorative centerpiece, bringing a sophisticated touch of mid-century French design to any interior.
