Classic … Read more This Really is an Absolutely Beautiful Antique American Document Box. Circa Mid to Late 19th Century - Approx 1870s. Classic Victorian Style. It is Completely Hand Made with Exceptionally Nice Attention to Detail. Based on the Style I Believe that it Was Most Likely Shipboard - New England Sailor Made ?. It is Made Out of Solid Genuine Indigenous North American Chestnut Wood with Genuine Rosewood Perimeter Outlining. The Center of the Top has a Beautiful Assorted Exotic Woods Inlay Design that Includes Rosewood, Ebony & Others ?. There is a Separate Hinged Top 2 Section Divided Internal Compartment that Still Retains its Original Brass Locking Mechanism but It Does Not Come With a Key. The Lid - Top Also Still Retains the Original Brass Locking Mechanism but it Also Does Not Include a Key. It has Substantially Made Solid Brass Hinges That are Original as Well. It is Strong and Sound - Perfectly Usable. The Exterior and Interior Still Retain Original Varnish that has Developed a Beautiful Naturally Aged Color & Patina and it Displays Beautifully. NOTE That the Top Has a Age Related Wood Shrinkage Crack that Would have Occurred Naturally as the Wood Seasoned Over the Years. The Bottom of the Box has Also Developed a Crack as Well Over the Years.
