OYO
Ō-yoroi, or “great armor,” were designed to create an impression of power. Created for the protection of high-ranking samurai in feudal Japan, from a distance, they appear monolithic. It is only when you are close to the wearer that the subtle craft of the suit reveals itself in the intricacy of its interlaced strings and bindings. Inspired by this artisanal work, Oyo echoes the patterning of the armor, a graphic stripe of links and lozenges, woven by hand in unbroken repetition.
