Each example here elevates that utilitarian purpose into a highly decorative, folk-art–inflected object: the eggs are boldly patterned in contrasting woods with inlaid and stained geometric ornament—concentric ovals, sweeping arcs, stepped reserves, and linear banding—arranged to read as abstract design across the rounded volumes. The first, likely circa 1900, presents a more classical chalice-like stand with a baluster stem and compact foot, its egg surmounting the cup in a tidy silhouette that suggests late Victorian/Edwardian treen traditions and a taste for refined turning paired with restrained graphic inlay.
