This 19th-century European hammered brass jardinière is a striking example of traditional artisanal metalwork. The vessel features a richly textured body defined by visible hand-hammered marks, giving the surface depth and character. It stands on cast brass claw-and-ball feet, secured with traditional hand-set copper rivets that reinforce the structure while highlighting the craftsmanship of the piece.
The interior retains a naturally aged patina with authentic verdigris oxidation, a hallmark of genuine antique brass that speaks to its age and history. Originally used as a fireplace log holder, the vessel easily lends itself today to repurposing as a decorative planter or cachepot.
Reflecting the Victorian era’s appreciation for both practicality and neoclassical elegance, this versatile jardinière combines sculptural form with functional design, distinguished by its hand-worked details and enduring antique character.
