It has a decorative pediment with an upper lip around the sides and back of the top. The bookcase has one adjustable shelf set in place by a unique zigzag style support system. There is a brass-colored metal curtain rod at the top. This piece is in good antique condition with wear to the surface, nicks and scuffs. There is one section of trim that is missing along the underside, left edge of the top; hard to see unless you are sitting at ground level.
