Framed Hand Colored Chromolithograph, "Battle of Princeton", wherein Gen. George Washington defeated the British forces (It's a great day for a Fox Hunt". Print measures 28.25" x 22.125" H . Matted and framed to approx 38 x 32. Frame has some light surface scratches in a couple of areas. Print is in antique condition, and has been professionally framed and matted for preservation.
Louis Kurz (1834-1921, b. Salzburg, Austria, d. Chicago, Illinois), "Battle of Princeton", published in Chicago in 1911. A vibrant original chromolithograph depicting this famed Revolutionary War battle in vivid detail and a bright color palette. General Washington is shown resolutely leading his troops against the Red Coat lines. In the distance, one can see Nassau Hall, and in the foreground Kurz has rendered the wounded upon the snow-covered ground. Text below the image reads, "WASHINGTON'S CHARGE JANUARY 3rd 1777. AMERICAN LOSS: GEN. MERCER AND ABOUT 100 MEN. BRITISH LOSS: KD (KILLED) & WD (WOUNDED) 200.300 PRISONERS AND CANNONS TAKEN. --- COPYRIGHTED 1911 BY LOUIS KURZ, CHICAGO, ILL ---BATTLE OF PRINCETON."
1777, Gen. George Washington and the Continental forces were victorious against the British Army at Princeton, NJ. This small but crucial battle helped shift the momentum for the #RevolutionaryWar and revive the U.S. Army, making it one of the most important military campaigns in American history.
