Original etching by Charles Meryon (French, 1821–1868), titled La Pompe Notre-Dame, Paris, 1852. Catalogued as Delteil 31 / Schneiderman 26. Meryon is recognized as the most significant etcher of 19th-century France; this subject is held in the permanent collections of the National Gallery of Art (Washington, D.C.) and the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Plate inscription in lower margin reads: C. Meryon ft — Imp — R. Nº 3 St. Etienne-du-Mont 26 — Publié par l'artiste and Impᶜ A. Delâtre R. St. Jacques — 1852. Auguste Delâtre was Meryon's primary printer and his name in the margin confirms period printing.
