One look at this Grosfeld House chair conjures up images of old Hollywood glamour or New York high style of the 1940's. Grosfeld House was a New York based furniture manufacturer that influenced the sophisticated era of American decorative design from the 1930's until its closing in the 1970's. Not only did they offer top-of-the-line craftsmanship and innovative designs but a decorator could also count on Grosfeld House for a modern sophistication that had a timeless appeal. This painted wood chair has a delicate silhouette with a beautiful hand carved swag detail that appears to drape at the top. The button tufted seat is upholstered in the original pale gray jacquard fabric. No manufacturer's label though this is a well documented design by Grosfeld House.
The chair is in very good structural condition. The painted finish shows age and wear including some paint loss and unevenness to the cream color. The seat fabric also shows age and wear including some discolorations. Though the chair is structurally sound, I would not recommend it for constant use due to the delicate nature of the design.
The chair measures 34.5" at the tallest tip of the back. The seat measures 17.5" high x 19" wide x 16" deep. The back is 18" wide.
