Some objects were made to hold something sacred. This one still wants to.
This is a Colonial Revival walnut lectern, built between 1910 and 1925, from a time when a piece like this stood in a study or a chapel and carried the one book that mattered. It came into the world with purpose and gravitas. It still has both.
The solid walnut has been finished by hand with hemp oil and sealed in clear wax, deepening the grain instead of covering it. Across the top sits a hand-stenciled medallion in black, intricate and symmetrical, the kind of detail you read differently up close than across the room. Slightly haunting. Quietly ceremonial. The turned legs are blackened at the joints. The lower shelf is intact and waiting. The original antique casters still roll, the way they have for a hundred years.
Use it as a writing lectern, a music stand, an altar or tarot surface, a side table, or simply as an object that holds space. It belongs to whoever recognizes what it is.
Hand-finished in San Diego by Skullflower Collective.
