It dates … Read more This is one of several recent purchases of French antique floral design lithographs that we purchased in Paris. It dates to 1900. It is from the unbound "Album du Dessinateur", a renown collection of decorative designs frequently used for creating rugs and tapestries of the period. It is a rare lithograph in excellent, clean condition; such designs are diffiuclt to find with the passage of time. This composition is the work of Maurice Dufrene (1876-1955) who is a highly acclaimed designer and decorator. (See notation in lower left) His natural motifs and organic sinuous lines are classic Art Nouveau. He also worked with guilded bronze and enamaled metals. By 1910 his work became more structured and geometric. He transitioned to Art Deco styling and is world renoun for his period craftsmanship in furniture and interior designs. This lithograph features vignettes of floral blossoms and leaf patterns with classic Art Nouveau styling. It is in horizontal format measuring 15 x 11 inches. The image is 11.5 x 8 inches.
