An antique dealer friend gave me this early 1900s chair - partially upholstered with batten and horsehair hanging out.
Here is the upholstered/trimmed outcome and of course, I added some fun.
The carvings on the top of the seatback frame reminded me of two smiling faces facing one another. Since the empty woodwork on each side resembled captions, I added LIVE LIFE connected by arrows pointing to the smiling faces above. In addition to the unexpected captions, you may notice the antique leather used as chair trim to stand out with the “tidy” upholstery.
This handsome chair was playfully enhanced and also saved from languishing in storage perpetuity.
