An evocative sculptural stoneware form from the celebrated Walther Studio, Denmark (circa 1960s-1970s). This piece, designated as Specimen F-010, is a premier example of the studio’s experimentation with kinetic abstraction and organic form.
Design & Artistry:
Number 2 is the most energetic work of the series. It features a sweeping, centrifugal swirl executed in a heavy, raised cobalt relief slip. The movement of the glaze suggests a rhythmic pulse—reminiscent of aquatic life or a serpent in motion. At its heart, a soft, atmospheric wash of aqua-green glaze bleeds into the raw terracotta, highlighting the rich, iron-speckled "Stentøj" (stoneware) body that is a hallmark of Danish studio pottery.
Craftsmanship:
The piece displays a rustic, hand-pinched "crust" rim that emphasizes its earthbound, Brutalist origin. The reverse is equally significant to the provenance, featuring the authentic textile-pressed unglazed base and a hand-incised cursive studio signature.
