Designed by Swiss architect Mario Botta for Alias in 1985, the ‘Quinta’ chair is composed of a black-lacquered steel rod frame with a perforated sheet metal seat and back. Its architectural geometry is unmistakable—arc and line in formal dialogue. Originally crafted for Botta’s own interiors, the chair evokes structural transparency and postmodern discipline. A museum-worthy piece that balances sculpture with utility.
The chair is featured in the book 1000 Chairs by Charlotte and Peter Fiell, published by Taschen. Page 506.
Throughout the 1970s, Mario Botta rose to prominence for his groundbreaking geometric designs and seemingly simple forms, exemplified by his first major project, the Middle School in Morbio Inferiore, Switzerland, completed in 1977. In the 1980s, Botta solidified his reputation as a master of postmodern design, not only in architecture but also in furniture. His postmodern aesthetic is evident in the dining tables and seating he created for companies like Alias, as well as in the table lamps and floor lamps he designed for Artemide.
Condition: Good vintage condition, with wear and scratches to the lacquered finish. The seat shows slight unevenness, as pictured.
