About the poster: Exhibition poster from show "La Profondeur de la Couleur" (the depth of colour) at Musée des beaux-arts by Jean McEwen, a retrospective show.
About the Artist: Jean McEwen (b.1923) was a self taught abstract painter, who originally worked as a pharmacist in Montréal. His paintings are recognizable by strong vertical planes, and layering paints of varying opacities. Fun fact- his studio was located just around the corner from our gallery located in old port! His later works are distinguished by using his own fingers to paint- as opposed to his earlier palette knife techniques. McEwen was inspired by French impressionism from his time spent in Paris- particularly with Riopelle, as well as American abstract expressionist painters, such as Jackson Pollock.
This poster in in very good condition, soft creasing upper third right side- see photos.
