Two robust cats staring out at the viewer with a hypnotizing stare is the theme of the mid-century artwork. The canvas painting features the original wooden frame with gold tone accent. In the 1960s, Chappell produced and wrote the libretto for Violins of St Jacques (1966, Sadler's Wells), taught at the Opera centre of London and painted cat portraits much admired by his friends.
