A beautiful example of American Brilliant Period (ABP) cut crystal, dating to the peak years of the movement, circa 1900–1915, … Read more A beautiful example of American Brilliant Period (ABP) cut crystal, dating to the peak years of the movement, circa 1900–1915, when American glass cutters produced some of the most intricate and labor-intensive crystal ever made.
This substantial 10-inch bowl features exceptionally deep and precise cutting, including:
• Radiating hobstar medallions
• Dense strawberry diamond cutting
• Geometric panels and cross-cut fans
• A dramatic deeply cut sawtooth rim
The underside displays a richly cut starburst base that produces wonderful prismatic refraction in light, a hallmark of high-quality ABP crystal.
Pieces from this period were hand-cut from thick crystal blanks using stone wheels, requiring many hours of skilled labor. The density and sharpness of the cutting seen here are characteristic of the golden age of American cut glass, roughly 1895–1915.
The bowl presents beautifully and makes an elegant centerpiece or display piece. See less
