A good pair of Wedgwood creamware soup plates in the Etruscan pattern. Enamelled in red and blue with stylized gadroon and dot borders. Each measures 9 9/16" in diameter. Good overall condition - one plate has two rim flakes at the back - do not show through on the front. Minor staining from glaze skip in the making. Display beautifully and very patriotic. Impressed mark and blue dots at back.
For similar plates see Christie's Dumfries House sale Volume II lot 356. Dumfries is a Palladian country house in Scotland with Chippendale furnishings. It is now a museum that enjoys the patronage of the Prince of Wales. The Christie's sale was cancelled and the plates returned to the house where they are now on display in the pink dining room. Good condition.
