About Vieux Paris Bridal Vases
“Vieux Paris” refers to porcelain made in and around Paris during the 19th century by various independent workshops rather than a single factory. Bridal vases like these were especially popular from the mid-19th century through the early 20th century.
They were traditionally:
Displayed on mantels or wedding altars
Used to hold bridal bouquets
Preserved under glass domes in the bride’s home as sentimental keepsakes
The lavish gilding and sculpted floral relief were meant to symbolize abundance and celebration.
The exact maker of this pair is unknown, which is typical of Vieux Paris wares. Based on the style, decoration, and construction, they appear to date to the mid-to-late 1800s.
