This award winning design … Read more An antique Whipple’s Rectangular Churn, circa 1868, crafted by Cornish, Curtis & Greene of Fort Atkinson. This award winning design reflects the ingenuity of late nineteenth century American agricultural innovation. The rectangular wooden churn is suspended within a sturdy wooden frame and secured with iron pins. A hand crank mounted at the side rotates the box from corner to corner, creating agitation that efficiently churns cream into butter. The mechanical action and exposed hardware give the piece a compelling sculptural quality. The surface shows a beautiful aged tone, accented with traces of black and light blue paint that highlight its original finish and early craftsmanship.
