Made by Fostoria and considered “Elegant Glass” meaning it was fire polished to remove rough edges and mold marks, unlike standard “Depression Glass” which may feel rougher to the touch. The “Pioneer” pattern was introduced in 1926 and is part of Fostoria’s move towards the clean, geometric lines of Art Deco. These vintage pieces were popular during the Depression era and are highly sought after due to their distinctive color and their characteristic glow under ultraviolet (black) light, caused by the inclusion of uranium in the glass mixture. These striking plates feature a unique subtle, practical design with concentric rings, which help them stack neatly. The sturdy appearance suggests durability, a hallmark of pieces designed for everyday use in their time providing a tangible connection to early 20th century craftsmanship.
