The clock case is executed in lavish Louis XVI revival taste, with elaborate scrolling acanthus, anthemion ornament, and finely cast sculptural details throughout. The dial is marked “Jules Graux, Paris”, a respected 19th century Parisian retailer and maker associated with fine decorative clocks of the period.
The circular enamel dial features individual porcelain cartouches with Roman numerals set against a finely chased gilt bronze ground centered with a lion mask motif. The case is surmounted by a classical urn flanked by sculptural elements, while the base is adorned with dramatic scrolling supports and richly layered ornamentation.
The accompanying candelabras are equally impressive, rising to over 27 inches in height. Each features six scrolling arms issuing from a fluted central column, with finely cast urn forms, classical masks, and draped garlands echoing the decorative language of the clock. The bases are architecturally modeled with bold scrollwork and stepped plinths, creating strong visual balance within the set.
