A beautifully hand-painted American Aesthetic Movement art pottery jardinière by the Willets Belleek Pottery Company of Trenton, New Jersey, dating … Read more A beautifully hand-painted American Aesthetic Movement art pottery jardinière by the Willets Belleek Pottery Company of Trenton, New Jersey, dating to the turn of the 20th century, circa 1895–1905.

This low, wide centerpiece form features a rich matte cobalt ground decorated with stylized peacock feather “eye” motifs, flowing foliage, and heavy period gilding beneath an ivory collar and gilt rim. The peacock was one of the defining decorative symbols of the Aesthetic Movement and early Art Nouveau period, making this piece especially evocative of late Victorian interiors and library settings.

Willets Belleek produced artist-decorated ceramics intended for upscale American homes, and each example was individually hand finished. The form was designed as a table jardinière for ferns or floral arrangements but today functions beautifully as a sculptural centerpiece on a dining table, console, or study desk.
