A refined French pendulum clock in gilded and patinated bronze from the Empire period, entirely conceived around the theme of music. A winged mythological figure, comparable to a genius or a Muse, emerges from a tangle of leafy scrolls while playing the lyre, in a gesture of grace suspended between the real and the allegorical. The gilded bas-relief dial depicts a scene with two figures, male and female, who seem to accompany the genius in his performance, transforming the dial itself into a small narrative composition.
The oval patinated bronze base is adorned with a continuous frieze of panoplies of musical instruments—lutes, horns, and scores—completing the thematic circle of the composition. The refined contrast between the gilded bronze of the figure and the dark patinated bronze of the case enhances the sculptural quality of the whole.
The movement features a lever escapement with wire suspension and a striking mechanism at half past six.
