Founded in 1929 by Italian-born textile designer Franco Scalamandré, Scalamandré quickly became synonymous with luxury fabrics, supplying exquisite textiles to prominent residences, cultural institutions, and landmark restorations across the United States. The now-famous “Zebras” motif was originally created in the 1940s for the Gino of Capri restaurant in New York and has since become one of the most recognizable patterns in 20th-century design.
