This enchanting pair of brass Cocker Spaniel dogs bookends was made in the USA by the PM Craftsman Company of Eaton Park, FL. c.1930. They depict two lively Cocker Spaniel dogs trying to reach each other, while one is lying on the spine of an overturned book and the other is attempting to scale the book from the side.
This wonderfully detailed set of dog bookends is identified in "The Collector's Encyclopedia of Bookends" by Louis Kuritzky and Charles DeCosta, and titled "Dogs at Play." In this book, they are given a rarity of 5, with 5 being the most rare.
They are in great vintage condition, with a lovely patina, and each one weighing nearly 4lbs. They are each 51/2" tall x 5 1/2" long x 3 3/4" wide. Please note that one one of these bookends is missing it's cardboard bottom.
They are truly so beautiful, that they make any book held between them that much more special!
