Elegant and highly distinctive Swiss porcelain dinner service by Suisse Langenthal, dated 1978.
This refined set features a deep cobalt blue border with delicate gilt edging and is uniquely decorated with the monogram “MG” applied to each piece. Notably, standard examples of this Langenthal series do not include monograms, which strongly suggests that this service was produced as a special commission or custom order.
The minimalist yet luxurious design reflects late 20th-century European aesthetics - architectural lines, strong contrast, and restrained elegance enhanced by personalisation.
The service includes dinner plates, soup plates, dessert plates, a covered tureen, and four graduated oval serving platters. The monogram gives the set a bespoke character rarely encountered on the market.
Condition details:
17 large dinner plates: near-perfect condition, one or two with very light surface scratches
6 soup plates: near-perfect condition
1 covered tureen: near-perfect condition
3 dessert plates: one with visible hairline cracks (see photos); two with slight discoloration
4 oval serving platters: wear to gilded edges consistent with careful use
The majority of the service remains in outstanding vintage condition with vibrant cobalt colour and well-preserved gilding.
