This exceptional armchair was designed and executed by Ferenc Fürst in the 1930s, one of the most distinguished master cabinetmakers of his era in Hungary. The model is documented in an original zig-zag shaded interior drawing from the period, confirming its authentic Art Deco provenance and formal language.
The frame is crafted from solid black walnut, showcasing the refined proportions and sculptural curved arm supports characteristic of Central European modernist craftsmanship. The wood retains its rich depth and natural warmth, emphasizing Fürst’s mastery in joinery and structural clarity.
The upholstery is entirely original and preserved in flawless condition, featuring a period tapestry fabric that perfectly complements the architectural geometry of the frame. The seating remains structurally sound and comfortable, reflecting the high construction standards of the workshop.
Ferenc Fürst was regarded as one of the finest cabinetmakers of his time and was not only an exceptional executor but also an independent designer. His workshop realized important works by Lajos Kozma, Gyula Kaesz, and József Peresztegi, contributing significantly to Hungarian Art Deco furniture production.
