The substantial triangular base is raised on three boldly modeled lion-paw feet, while layered foliate collars and an urn-form socket give the piece the architectural presence associated with Grand Tour and neoclassical design.

At nearly ten inches high, it is well scaled for a mantel, library console, dining-room sideboard, or writing desk. Display it with a standard taper candle, or leave it unlit among old books, classical fragments, and dark wood furnishings as a decorative object in its own right.
