A wonderfully distinctive example of turn-of-the-century smoking accoutrements, this circa 1900 cigar lighter beautifully blends natural materials with refined silver craftsmanship. The form is both sculptural and purposeful, designed to rest securely on a tabletop while offering effortless function.
The lighter features a rounded sterling silver reservoir body, elegantly banded at its center with subtle decorative detailing. Three small, tapered feet elevate the spherical base, giving the piece stability and a poised, almost tripod-like stance. Rising from the top is the capped ignition spout, complete with its original chain attachment. Extending from the body is a natural antler handle, warm in tone and organic in shape. The contrast between the smooth, polished sterling silver and the textured, earthy antler creates a compelling visual balance—rugged yet refined. The handle not only provides safe distance from flame and heat but also offers a comfortable grip, allowing the user to easily ignite a cigar with control and precision.
Measuring 4.75 inches in length, 1.5 inches deep, and 3 inches high, and weighing 43 grams, the piece has a satisfying lightness. Marked “Sterling” on the base, it affirms its quality and material integrity. Good antique condition, there are several dents to the silver body. Signs of wear and use, untested. Please review the photos for further condition assessment.
Designed in an era when gentlemen’s smoking accessories were crafted as decorative objects as much as functional tools, this lighter would have graced a well-appointed study, library, or club room. Today, it serves equally well as a collectible antique, a conversation piece, or a refined accent within a curated desk or bar setting—an evocative nod to the elegance and ritual of early 20th-century cigar culture.
