Lovely English white ironstone platter in an Aesthetic Movement / Arts & Crafts design.
We love the two color palette of a white field with a brown (bearing a touch of magenta) hue in its floral/foliage spray transferware in the Bedford pattern. The piece boasts a unique shape referred to as "Octagonal" when fabricated in the Victorian era but is more generally known as a "Scalloped Oblong" meaning an oval with both straight & scalloped segments. Marks en verso include the crown shield topped by the pattern name with the fabricator identification, Mellor Taylor & Co. of Stoke on Trent, England.
Semi-porcelain pieces of this period's Aesthetic' Movement are highly collectible and increasingly difficult to find. This is a fine example of the genre.
Very good antique condition with no chips, no cracks, glaze flaws & wear typical of a piece representing over 140 years of enjoyment!
