Acquired in France, a gorgeous 19th century pair of hand painted paper mache spill vases.
A spill vase is a small, typically decorative, 18th-to-19th-century vessel designed to hold "spills"—thin, rolled paper tapers or wood slivers used to transfer fire from a fireplace to candles, lamps, or pipes.
The vases have beautiful hand painted florals on both sides.
They measure 6-1/4" tall and 3-1/2" wide at the base. They are in superb condition with no loss.
An elegant pair of French spill vases.
