A tour de force of Art Deco animalier sculpture, this large-scale porcelain grouping by Karl Tutter for Hutschenreuther captures two Borzois (Russian Wolfhounds) in a graceful, galloping stride.
Designed circa 1930, the piece is a masterclass in porcelain engineering, successfully depicting the powerful forward motion and slender silhouettes of these noble sighthounds.
The high-gloss white porcelain is finished with delicate hand-painted shading that accentuates the breed's fine coat texture and musculature. Standing at an impressive 13" high and 13.5" long, this grouping serves as a sophisticated statement piece for a grand mantel, library, or entryway console.
It is fully hallmarked on the underside with the blue Hutschenreuther Selb Kunstabteilung stamp and the artist's impressed signature.
It is in excellent condition. This piece is remarkably well-preserved with no chips, cracks, or repairs. The high-gloss glaze remains brilliant and mirror-like.
