An exceptional 19th century Italian Rococo three-door display bookcase, masterfully hand-carved from solid walnut and sculpted with the fluid, animated lines that define the Rococo tradition. The gracefully arched crown rises in bold, rhythmic curves, centered by an intricate crest of scrolling foliage. The shaped doors echo the movement above, while the serpentine apron and cabriole legs complete the silhouette with balance and refinement.
Each of the three doors retains its original clear hand-beveled glass ~ an important and authentic detail. The beveled edges are finely finished, adding depth and dimension to the glazing while preserving complete clarity for display. Each of the seven shelves are adjustable to accommodate your needs. This feature reflects the level of craftsmanship devoted not only to the carving, but to every functional element of the piece.
The Rococo style first emerged in Italy in the early 18th century, celebrating movement, asymmetry, and natural ornament. France later embraced and refined the aesthetic during the reign of Louis XV, giving the style its royal association. The 19th century revival returned to these expressive roots, honoring the artistry and technical mastery that defined the original period.
This triple display bookcase stands as a testament to that enduring tradition ~ richly carved, beautifully proportioned, and designed to present books, porcelain, or treasured objects with elegance and authority.
