Monumental in scale and presence, these throne‑like fauteuils have tall, generously proportioned backs and deep, comfortable seats that immediately command attention in a room. Each chair is exceptionally heavy and substantial, a testament to its solid walnut construction and quality 19th‑century craftsmanship.

Inspired by the grand fauteuils found in 18th‑century French châteaux and the historic state rooms of palaces such as Versailles, these armchairs embody the opulence and ceremony of the French Ancien Régime, reinterpreted in the Second Empire / Third Republic period. Cabinetmakers and patrons of the time consciously revived Régence and early Louis XV models to celebrate France’s royal past and the great 18th‑century ébénistes.

The frames are richly and crisply carved with interlaced foliage, scrolling acanthus, shells, and cartouches, all characteristic of Régence and early Louis XV design.
