A striking and unusually tall 19th century French provincial Comtoise longcase clock, signed “Migeat à St Germain du Bois.”
Standing an impressive 91 inches high while only 9 inches deep, this clock has a dramatic architectural presence. Its narrow vertical form makes it ideal for hallways, flanking fireplaces, or adding height to a room without consuming floor space.
The enamel dial features Roman numerals and pierced steel hands within a gilt-accented surround. The bonnet retains its arched crown, and the warm-toned wooden case shows rich age and patina.
The focal point is the oversized sculptural pendulum with high-relief figural and classical motifs, far more dimensional than typical stamped brass examples. It reads almost like carved architectural ornament and gives the piece exceptional decorative appeal.
