My parents are from Hungary and brought beautiful items back every time they went back for decades. I am selling off part of the huge collection I inherited.
This is a Herend Rothschild Bird large pierced triangular dish.
The pattern, first created in 1860 for the Rothschild family of Europe, is considered by many connoisseurs to be the epitome of hand painting on porcelain.
It is handmade of porcelain and hand-painted in Hungary with 24K gold accents.
The design depicts a 19th-century tale about Baroness Rothschild, who lost her pearl necklace in her Vienna garden, and it was later found by a gardener being played with by birds in a tree.
The dish features a richly pierced (openwork) border and various bird and butterfly motifs. See less
