Marvelous vintage Art Deco Streamline & Art Moderne springer base black & white painted metal lounge chairs attributed to Wolfgang … Read more Marvelous vintage Art Deco Streamline & Art Moderne springer base black & white painted metal lounge chairs attributed to Wolfgang Hoffman, composed of white painted metal frames w/springer bases, black painted metal armrests, & square loose zippered foam filled seat & back cushions with white faux leather & black vinyl welting. These chairs have been attributed based upon archived research including online sources, vintage documentation and catalogs, designer literature, and other materials however, they are not signed or marked in any way. Beautiful condition, keeping in mind that these are vintage and not new so will have signs of use and wear even if they have been refinished or restored. Specifically, We have purposely left the original rustic painted finish on this pair, a couple of the back straps are bent, & some loose stitching in cushions. This pair of chairs has us BOUNCING with excitement!!!! Quite literally… LOL!!! This is a FANTASTIC pair of springer base black & white painted metal lounge chairs attributed to Wolfgang Hoffman. They are composed of white painted flat banded tubular metal frames with a fabulous springer base, black painted metal armrests, & square loose zippered foam filled seat & back cushions wearing white faux leather trimmed with black vinyl welting. They are kind of a MIX MATCH pair as they bear a few slight differences, some noticeable…some, not so much!! For instance, one chair back has rounded corners and the other more squared… the more “squared” back chair armrests have a decorative screw in the center and the rounded chair armrest does not… Now, they BOTH have the original black & white paint that at some point has been painted over BUT we left it alone because… quite frankly… we like the way they look. They are also both VERY comfortable and VERY SPRINGY!!! They feature a streamlined Art Deco, Art Moderne, & a little Machine Age style aesthetic sure to make a BOLD (& bouncy!!) statement in any room of your home. They would be wonderful in a reading nook, home office, bedroom corner, or in your living room facing your sofa. Or, on a covered porch, patio, Lanai, or sunroom as they are excellent for transitional purposes but best protected from rain and harsh weather elements… still allowing you to enjoy some fresh air!! Besides, they are bouncy, fun, functional, versatile, and oh-so-SPECTACULAR in every way. What’s NOT to LOVE???

Wolfgang Hoffman was an Austrian-American architect & designer and son of famed architect & designer Josef Hoffman. He was active in the American modernism movement between 1926 and 1942. His reputation was often overshadowed by that of his father however, in 1934 he went to work for W. H. Howell Company where he created a large number of furniture designs in “Chromesteel,” a flat or tubular chromium-plated steel which he incorporated in his designs of chairs, desks, and tables to provide what he referred to as a “fluid & graceful appearance.” He was featured as an exclusive designer in Howell’s 1938 sales catalogue for his designs and as an authority in the development of authentic modern furniture. He left the company in 1942 when it converted to war production and went on to become a professional photographer in Chicago. He passed away in Geneva, Illinois in 1969. His designs are highly sought after today.
