Rare Antique Copeland Spode "Peacock" Pattern 10.5" Bowl – Gilman Collamore & Co. Retailer Mark
This exquisite 10.5-inch bowl features one of Spode’s most celebrated designs, the "Peacock" pattern (Pattern #2118). Inspired by 19th-century Chinese originals, the vibrant design depicts peacocks amidst stylized peonies and lush foliage, rendered in a transfer-printed outline and meticulously hand-painted with pink, blue, and green highlights.
What makes this piece truly special is the retailer backstamp for Gilman Collamore & Co. of 5th Avenue & 30th Street, New York. This high-end importer was a staple of New York luxury at the turn of the century, dating this piece specifically between 1890 and 1920. The bowl also bears the hand-painted red pattern number "2118" and the standard Copeland Spode "England" stamp.
Condition:
The bowl is in good antique condition, showing signs of use appropriate for its age. The colors remain vibrant. There are no major chips or cracks, though light surface scratches and minor "crazing" typical of fine earthenware from this period may be present upon close inspection.
A magnificent example of English transferware with a prestigious New York heritage, this bowl is a must-have for Spode collectors or as a centerpiece for a classic dining table.
