The composition reflects Dutch interpretations of Chinese porcelain introduced to Europe in the 17th century, later codified into a distinct decorative language. Hand-painted cobalt decoration is applied to a tin-glazed earthenware body, producing the characteristic soft white ground and deep blue tonal variation.

Intended as a charger rather than a dining plate, the scale and shallow well support use as a display or centerpiece form. The underside bears a simple hand-applied mark consistent with decorative Delft-style production.

Provenance details unknown; acquired directly from a Northern California collection.

Condition: Fine kiln-related glaze lines, one stabilized hairline crack. The crack was repaired with Hexal epoxy, formulated specifically for glass and ceramic restoration, which is non-yellowing.
