Dating to the late 19th century, this beautiful Chinese porcelain bowl features a graceful scalloped, petal-shaped rim and richly hand-painted decoration in the famille rose palette. Alternating figural and floral panels depict courtly figures within garden settings, surrounded by abundant peonies, foliage and smaller floral motifs in traditional shades of pink, green, blue and yellow.
The hand-painted decoration continues around the exterior, while the softly lobed form gives the bowl a particularly lovely floral silhouette. A red four-character seal mark appears on the underside.
At approximately 10 inches in diameter, the bowl is a great size for display on a console, tabletop or shelf, and would also be beautiful filled with potpourri or other decorative objects. A charming example of late Qing-era Chinese decorative porcelain.
