A Portuguese, 18th century oversized stone mortar & pestle once used to grind herbs, grains, and spices for cooking and medicine. The heavy vessel is hand-chiseled from one piece of stone characterized by patchy red and orange minerals, shaped with four, angular handles that make it (a little) easier to use and carry. This antique culinary tool becomes a sculptural feature for an interior or patio, used as a bowl or artifact of culinary history. Be sure to view the detailed images to see the current condition.
