A whimsical plate and generously sized bowl made just for children. Standing on a crosswalk, the friendly crossing guard shows your child the way to safely cross the street. Both pieces have fun big yellow dots and black circles around the rim and each has a smiling crossing guard. There are four vehicles on the plate and three on the bowl, but the cars are playfully changed in a way that will make an observant child smile. The green car with the starred wheels on the bowl has suddenly turned yellow. The yellow truck on the bowl has just as quickly changed from a four by four to a larger cargo van. The little purple car remains the same, but on the plate is joined by a green sedan that almost seems to have a wind up key on its trunk.
This set is very rare. The "S" inside the "G" on the pottery mark on the china was first used in 1933 by the Georg Schmider, Vereinigte Zeller Keramische Fabriken (United Zell Ceramic Companies) in the town of Zell am Hermersbach in Germany. Although Mr. Schmider passed in 1934, the mark appears to have remained in use for about thirty years before being modified, making it reasonable to assume these plates were made between 1933 and 1960.
The plate is 8.25 inches diameter and .75 inches high.
The bowl is 7.5 inches diameter and 1.5 inches high.
