The composition displays the subtle asymmetry and painterly brushwork characteristic of late Edo Imari wares, with finely scaled fish, fluid linework, and intentional variation that reflects hand production rather than later factory output.

The bowl is potted with a gently rounded profile and finished with a soft, bluish-white glaze typical of the period. Interior border decoration features a repeating geometric band, while the exterior is accented with complementary foliate motifs. Visible kiln and glaze variations are consistent with age and traditional firing methods.

Presented in a later Japanese kiri wood storage box bearing a handwritten label. The box is not original to the bowl but adds historical context, protection, and visual gravitas to the piece.
