Functioning similarly to a shrine or tabernacle, the reliquary was used to protect and display important religious relics in the church. circa 1800

Likely Italian, probably Tuscan, a superb example, it features rustic, fairly primitive construction, indicating it likely originated in a country / provincial rural church setting.

Featuring a central compartment with glass panel front and rear door access, two piece construction, the shaped upper with beautiful wood grain detail, forged iron disc door on the crest for the Lunette medallion.

Recent acquisition from reputable high-end auction house Black Rock Gallery; property from a most prestigious Lords Highway, Weston, Connecticut private estate.

Great condition overall, especially considering its over 200 hundred years old. Presents splendidly, having beautifully aged warm, rustic patina over the whole.
