Dated November 19th, 1859 Illustrated London News print of Sports in America - Shooting Turkeys For Thanksgiving Day.
This is a page of a famous London paper, the Illustrated London News. Although there were various newspapers available at the time, they were rarely illustrated, which was a gap in the market seized upon by Herbert Ingram when he issued the first copy in 1842. The paper was geared towards the expanding middle classes at whom advertising could also be directed.
This was a segment in which they sent out a correspondent to America in hopes of finding interesting tidbits for their readers at home in the UK.
